In 1990, Baltimore
Toolworks adopted "World Class" manufacturing techniques, allowing
us to blend all the benefits of hand craftsmanship with the engineered
efficiencies of cell manufacturing and flow-through technology.
Heating, forging,
grinding, heat-treating and other traditional manufacturing activities
were carefully analyzed. Machines were re-engineered and clustered into
groups to improve product flow-through, while non-productive activities
and motion were eliminated from most processing.
What hasn't changed?
We still use only the finest grades of American produced alloy steels
- lab certified to be the best material for impact and cutting tools.
And each tool is still hand made by skilled metalworkers. Yet at each
step of our many processes, precise fixtures and guides have been incorporated
to control exact size and shape. No wonder Baltimore chisels and punches
are known for their precise edges. Each tool is also individually heat
treated and closely monitored by infrared sensors to meet our exacting
specifications.
Most of our products
flow through a 12-step manufacturing line with quality checks engineered
into the fixturing of each process. Because our production orders can
start and finish within a few hours, we always have the necessary tools
in stock and can quickly process specialty items. Even custom tools for
your special needs can be designed in an expedient manner.
How do our precision
manufacturing and lean business sytems add up for you? Most orders are
shipped within 24 hours at 100% fill rates. Even our warehouse operation
uses advanced technology and dual pick lines to improve performance. By
eletronically scanning every product we ensure that your order is correct,
eliminating costly returns, credits, debits and delays.
